Journey of Life

“Until you love yourself and all of your imperfections, you cannot accomplish anything.”

There are no truer words and for some reason, no truer words for me today. The only person in charge of your happiness is you. Once you have come to terms with this realization, life will open up.

Life can be hard. Each person is fighting his or her own battles. If you keep a positive outlook and know that everything happens for a reason, there are no limits to what can be achieved. So, just because bad days happen – it doesn’t mean that you have a bad life. Keep smiling your way through life, be a positive influence on others and have fun! Life is a journey not a destination.

The above quote is from Lucille Ball, by the way.

Skinny vs. Healthy

I have been looking for the right words to say something that has been on my mind a lot. The models in the magazines are skinny, duh. It is always news when a plus size model gets a spread in a major magazine. My issue is this: models are people to look up to, right? Why would I want to strive to be overweight? No, I don’t starve myself nor would I like to be a size 0. I don’t look up to people who take drastic measures to be skinny. However, some people are naturally skinny. That doesn’t impress me.

I want to be healthy. I want to be fit. I want to look great in anything I wear; but, I want to look even better naked. Why aren’t more fitness models in major magazine spreads? People who are determined, motivated, healthy, and beautiful, not because they were just lucky enough to be born with great genes, but because they work their asses off for it every single day. It doesn’t impress me to hear models or actresses proclaim to eat anything they want and never go to the gym or workout. I look up to healthy, motivated people who are proud of their bodies and are confident enough to admit to working out. Those are the women I want to look up to. Body image is so important and teaching our children that they have to be lucky in the genes department to be looked up to or to be big in fashion is ridiculous.
